Calgary Stampede: A Few Photos From 2011, Centennial Celebration In 2012

Today newspaper Die Südostschweiz, a long term client in Switzerland, published my travel feature about the Calgary Stampede 2011. The story looks great and they used one of my favourite photos of that trip: Cowboy 207 getting ready for his shot at winning 100,000 dollars at the rodeo. You can check out a PDF copy of the article here. (I am waiting for a few more publications resulting from my last trip to Alberta. The next features should be on road tripping through the Canadian Badlands and hunting down dinosaur bones.)

If you are an editor and interested in stories and photos from this trip, please contact me through this website. I have plenty of material on the Calgary Stampede (including many high res rodeo and chuckwagon racing photos) and the road trip through the Badlands (including spectacular landscape photos).

From now until July 2012 is the perfect time to publish stories about the Stampede. You’d have an article (or image gallery) in print or on your website right before the Calgary Stampede Centennial Celebration (July 6-15, 2012). Of course, I am also more than open to discuss assignments to cover the Centennial in 2012. For your website, I can have images ready at the next day.

Since space in print, as always, is limited, below you can find a selection of unpublished shots that I took at this year’s Stampede. I particularly like some of those close ups from the chuckwagon races

Native Americans play a big part in the celebrations. This photo was taken during a parade.

This rodeo event is called bareback bronc...

Another cowboy waiting for his shot at 100,000 dollars!

The chuckwagon race is about to start, the horses are ready to go!

Apparently, chuckwagon racing is the fastest growing spectator sport in North America.
